Courtney's stormtrooper surprise!
Gareth and Courtney got married at Willowbrook Park in Hamilton. They loved the white ballrooms with the gold trims and the beautiful elegant gardens. It was something Courtney could only imagine in a Parisian wedding.
I will let Courtney explain their unique wedding theme in her own words. I always comment that when planning your wedding keep in mind it is YOUR day and Courtney and Gareth epitomised this and their joy and happiness is so evident!
When planning our wedding I often used the words ‘Whimsical, Elegant and nerdy’. We wanted our wedding to reflect us as a couple, and being a graphic designer I also wanted it to be stylish. So we kept our wedding theme simple and stuck to white, gold, greenery.
For our ‘nerdy’ part of the theme, I originally had the idea to include a star wars theme to our wedding when I found our cake toppers, a BB8 and R2D2. From there I started to think about little ways to incorporate the theme into our wedding without it being too overpowering and decided to surprise my husband with stormtroopers walking me down the aisle.
Why did you choose your dress?
When I saw the Maggie Sottero Winstyn dress online, it looked perfect. The lace on the body of the dress was flattering and elegant, and the layers of tulle on the bottom gave me a better shape as well as looked airy and chic. I felt beautiful as soon as I slipped it on like I was walking on clouds.
What was your favourite part of the dress?
The tulle and the train! It was so light and whimsical, it just flowed out beautifully from the body of the dress.
What made your Astra Bridal experience special?:
The staff definitely. I worked with Dee from the Hamilton store, and she made it her mission to make me feel as amazing and special as possible. She pulled in all the dresses I liked in my size so I could try them on, and made it really easy to come in for my fittings and not have a single worry about the dress.
What was your favourite wedding day moment?
Reading our personalised vows to each other. I hadn’t heard or read my husbands before the wedding, so it was an emotional moment hearing his heartfelt promises to me. I still read them and get teary.
Other than your gown what was your favourite item from your wedding?
The stormtrooper, he was awesome and so fun to work with.
Advice for future brides:
My advice to future brides is to make the day personal to your relationship with your partner. Incorporate some of the things that you both love your theme or if you want to be more subtle, just add little details (like little cake toppers or hiring a stormtrooper… really subtle)
