Featured bride Emma's romantic modern wedding

Emma and Nick tied the knot at Boomrock Lodge on the West Coast of Wellington. Aside from the stunning views, the couple chose Boomrock because it is located in Wellington where Nick grew up, but has views of the South Island where Emma grew up. Added to this, the Marlborough Sounds is a special place for Emma’s family making this is perfect wedding destination for this gorgeous couple.

Emma and Nick didn’t have a theme as such, but kept with navy, blush pink and eucalyptus as a colour scheme.

People will always have an opinion on how you should do certain things. My advice would be to do things your way.

Lisa in the Wellington Astra Bridal shop was fabulous. When I first arrived at Astra, I explained that I was looking for a dress with lace (a style that seems to be very popular at the moment). Lisa’s experienced eye told her that a lace dress wasn’t going to be what I would end up wearing but knowing brides and how they like to operate, she helped me pick out some to try on.

When it became clear that I wasn’t having any luck, Lisa gently suggested I try on the McCall, having ear-marked that for me from the very beginning. She has such a knack for matching the bride to the right dress and I am so pleased she encouraged me to try something I hadn’t considered.

It’s very hard to pick one moment as the favourite.
It was pretty special seeing Nick waiting for me at the end of the aisle.
We had people travel all over the world to be with us on our wedding day and Nick and I absolutely loved sharing our day with them.

I chose the Maggie Sottero McCall because of its classic lines and understated elegance. I don’t normally wear clothing with lots of embellishments or details so it felt really “me” when I was wearing it. But most importantly, it was incredibly comfortable to wear and meant I could easily scoot around the dance floor with our guests later in the evening.

The pockets! I don’t think many brides can say their dress has pockets.

The talented team.

Jim Pollard.
Jim traveled from Queenstown to photograph our wedding. We were absolutely blown away by the photos and have had so much positive feedback from our friends and family. Jim had a great suggestion to take both of us away after dinner for some time on our own and to get some sunset shots. As many married couples will tell you, the wedding day goes incredibly quickly and it was a special moment for the two of us to just pause and enjoy our first evening as husband and wife.

Groom: Working Style.
Groomsmen: Barkers

Chrissie from Vee Hair Design.
Chrissie was my hairdresser so it was lovely to have her do our hair. She is super organised. Both her and Kristy are so calm and professional and made the process of getting ready a really fun time for my bridesmaids and me.

Kristy from Kristy Leigh Makeup.
Kristy works with Chrissie as one half of the wedding day dream team! She has beautiful products and knows how to make brides look their absolute best. I absolutely loved my makeup look.

Yvette Edwards.
Yvette has wonderful ideas about wedding flowers, and having worked with Boomrock before, she knew exactly what would suit the venue and the colourway we wanted. She delivered the flowers to Boomrock and styled the venue on the day for us, which made the whole wedding day so much easier for me.

Boomrock Lodge, Wellington.
Boomrock have an extensive canapé and menu selection to choose from, and were able to cater for all dietary requirements.

Claybird shooting, golf, music supplied by Boomrock’s music system.
Boomrock offer guests claybird shooting and the opportunity to tee off the cliff after the ceremony while the wedding party is away having photos. This provided lots of fun for our family and friends. Because of our guest numbers, it was going to prove difficult to have a band. Boomrock have a fantastic music system which is operated by staff at the bar.

We downloaded a template from Etsy that had all of the wedding stationary included.
There are some fabulous templates that you can buy for minimal cost and which you can then customise. We had the stationary printed at The Big Picture in Wellington. We can thoroughly recommend Big Picture – great service and quick turn around times.

Harriet McGuire, Boomrock Lodge.
Harriet was an absolute dream to work with. Together with the Boomrock team, Harriet made wedding organisation really enjoyable - we just knew we were in good hands with her at the helm! Harriet had a great runsheet which provided the structure for the day, and we worked with her to tailor it to fit us. Nothing was an issue and on the day, Harriet made sure all the little details were taken care of. We cannot recommend Harriet and the Boomrock team enough.

Catherine Fyfe.
Catherine kindly stepped in not long before our wedding when our previous celebrant double-booked herself. Catherine was such a huge support to us leading up to the wedding and we both really appreciated her wise counsel and professionalism.

Tom Brinkel, Brinkels Cake Art.
My lovely mum was in charge of the cake and I’m certain she rang poor Tom multiple times to check things were on track - he is a very patient man! Tom personally delivered the cake safely to Boomrock so we didn’t need to worry about it on the day. We chose a two-tiered cake, with one tier as chocolate and the other lemon, with royal icing which we served as a plated dessert with berries and cream.
